Hi all,
I walked passed a 3 set in downtown Portland tonight, asks them where they're from; not trying to gain anything except striking a brief conversation.
Well, 2 said they're from Portland (ok whatever me too), 1 said she's from L.A.
Right away, I said "I hate L.A.....traffic, smog..etc" (thinking it would be funny as I have been to L.A. several times)
Right away, She said "Well I hate you" (she did not think it was funny)
It just went downhill from there so I had to steer the conversation in the exiting direction and eject as gracefully possible.

Tonight, I learn that dissing a girl's hometown is an instant negative. Please help me with some suggestions or inputs.
thank you,

what you need to do is not bring any negativity in any of the conversation you have or will have with girls or guys! I say this, because you will have conversation with everybody, and if you bring negativity then you're putting out a bad vibe!... Now if you showed off some playful positive vibe, there wouldn't be any situation like this..
One response you can have is.. "Ooohh! You're from LA? I heard about girls from LA... they are.. how do I put this.. INTERESTING.." (So when you continue and move on with conversation.. ask about her.. and if she complies.. she has to qualify herself.. since you pointed out that girls from LA are interesting..) You could actually neg when she says something not interesting like.. "Oh.. so you're one of the small percentages of girls from LA that keep it simple.."
(I'm at work right now.. so the reply might not be that good.. haha.. oh wells.. you get the idea.. you have to be positive to make it possible!)
