This happened to me a few nights ago.

When typing in her number I asked "How do you spell your name"

She was a sharp one and replied "How you think you spell it?" and she winked.

I slept with her two days later, so it's all good.

Here's a hint: link it with a celebrity, or create some mental image. E.g. Sarah. Think of Sarah michelle Gellar as a buffy slayer, and pretend that girl is the buffy slayer.

It sounds retarded but it works.

Also, repeat the name often when you first hear it - it's ok to do this after the first few minutes, to reconfirm it and show the others you're making an effort to remember, but when you've been talking for a few hours it's not so good to have forgotten the name by then.

The first thing is not to drink. The second thing is to make a very concious effort to remember their name after they say it.

If you like them, use some tiny fraction of your mental process to repeat the name over and over and over if necessary.

If you get caught out for not remembering say

1) When I approached you I was nervous and forgot your name.
2) Anyway it was you I was talking to- it's you I'll remember

She wants honesty (like we all do).

In general if you can keep in mind the thought "I'm not afraid of losing you, if you walk away now, that's fine- I'll move on" then you'll lose your fear of talking to new girls (and new people in general).
