So, there's this girl who's kinda new around my work... HB 7 or so. We don't work in the same department, and I know EVERYBODY at my work of 700 employees. She doesn't know that many people yet. Anyways, been chatting her up for a few weeks and we obviously have a lot to discuss. I felt pretty confident about asking her out yesterday. , so I said "let's go for a walk and get a bite to eat tomorrow after work". She said "definitely." Not "ok", not "sure", but "definitely". So as of yesterday evening we were on for 5pm today - dinner and a stroll. Definitely.

I saw her a few times today and did the usual "how's your day?" or "what are you working on". The usual response is that she won't shut up until I say I have to go, but today she was all awkward and kinda turned her back on me each time. She's always complaining about little shit, but she's cute so I stomach it. We've chatted through email before, so I didn't feel like an AFC sending her a quick note asking if we were still on for later and for her number, since we might not bump into each other on a busy day.

Anyways, she wrote back with a time constraint of 7pm, but still saying yes, and gave me her cell. I saw her in the hall right before we were supposed to meet up, asked her how her day was, and she said in a hurried fashion "I gotta go to my cubicle," and turned her back and walked away. WTF? Any advice for dealing with these mixed signals? Bad day? Lesbian? She told me to call her, so I didn't feel like a chump calling her after work to suggest another time. I figured I was gonna see her at work anyways; might as well attempt to smooth it out and call and pretend it was I who cancelled on her because of "band practice". While she said "sure, another time", she didn't seem too excited to chat.

I should mention that the ONLY person that she and I BOTH know pretty well at work is this girl in her department who tried to get with me for months but I wasn't interested in... She gave me the stink eye for months after I kept ignoring her calls, but now we're cool I guess... maybe she put in a bad word for me or something. I should also mention that I feel confident I could get a hotter girl any day, but there's something about her I like, so I felt like it was worth the effort and a certain degree of realness. :?

I think the moving to isolation may be what was putting her off. I think it may work better if next time you do something like "a few of us are heading out for an after work beer, come tag along" or something along those lines.
