Were these guys pick up artists? Is their strategy with dealing with other men common among PUAs?

This is my real life experience with a PUA. Any input is appreciated.

Last September, I met this girl at university and she was really attracted to me and I was somewhat attracted to her. Over the course of 2 weeks I suggested to her that we sign up for a university event called “Day of the Longboat.” It was a student boat race. I thought it would be a great way to meet some people and hopefully make some friends. I didn’t know anyone who was interested so she sent out a Facebook invite to her friends list. We needed 10 people in total. 3 guys, 7 girls. The event took place over 2 Saturdays.

On the first Saturday:

Once we got to the beach, we go inside the sailing building to meet the instructors. As we waited for our session, we went to the waiting lounge where there were sofas. Everyone got a seat on the two sofas there except me. I had to stand to the side. The two guys and the girl I liked sat on one sofa, at the center of attention. At this point the 3 other girls arrived. They were beautiful European exchange students. When introduced the ‘head guy’ made eye contact with one of the girls for quite some time, around 6 seconds. She was a beautiful Dutch girl. While on the sofas, the two guys started talking about the frat house they were part of. I politely asked one of the guys a question related to that. The guy clearly heard my question, looked at me for 2 seconds, and then looked away. He didn’t answer the question! I felt a bit insulted. I didn’t let it show though.

On the next Saturday:

I had agreed to drive everyone to the beach. I had to make 2 trips because my car couldn’t fit 10 people at once. There were two races on Saturday that we took part in, both a few hours apart. After the first race, most of the team went to a diner to get brunch. I decided to head back to my dorm. The Dutch girl asked me if she could get ride in my car. I said sure. Then the two guys asked me if they could get a ride too. I said sure. While driving back, I conversation with the girl because she was sitting the passenger seat.

Once we got to the dorm, I dropped them off. They thanked me for the ride. I said goodbye. Then I realized I forgot something in my trunk. I got out, got the item, and as I went to get back into my car I said ‘goodbye’ again. Unfortunately I accidentally interrupted them. I think he was hitting on her. I felt bad that I interrupted them. I simply got in my car and drove away.

The next race was a couple hours later. The two guys and myself showed up at the bus stop at the same time. We just missed the bus.

Because I’m a nice person, I offered them a ride in my car to the destination. They accepted. Here’s where it becomes strange. While we were walking to the car (which was about 5 minutes away), they didn’t even talk to me! They only talked to each other. They went at their own pace. They didn’t want to get to know me. When we got in the car, the stereo came on. I went to turn it off. As I did, the guy in the passenger seat signaled to me that he wanted it on. But I left it off. They then opened their windows and looked away from me. They made it clear they didn’t want anything to do with me. What was actually a 5 minute ride, seemed like an hour. Once we got to the place, they thanked me and got out and walked away without me! I felt unwelcome in the group. I was nice to people and they made me feel unwelcome.

He ignored me, even when I was nice to him. Why would he do that? Were they getting me back for interrupting them? Talking to his target when I drove her? Because he considered me competition?

Are you writing an article or something? if so just ask and we will tell. As for this post as I mentioned earlier pickup artists are not some magical force of nature, these guys will be naturals (what puas learn to be).

As I also mentioned earlier most guys in the community befriend people, so to re-answer your question no this is not a common strategy for dealing with other men.

As for the rest I didn't read it but from what I skimmed it looks like they didn't talk to you because they either knew eachother better or the fact you were driving. Don't sweat little things especially little things that happened a while back (more than a day lol).

thanks for the input. no I can assure you i'm not writing an article. i have a lot of questions about PUA. that's all. I guess i've always had a negative view on PUA but I'm trying to learn more about it.

This situation I described was devastating to me. It might sound odd for a guy to say that, but I was really hurt. I think I may have a personality disorder because I can't stop thinking about this situation everyday.

For a long time I thought they were trying to act alpha male with me by be rude to me when the girls weren't there. I had a feeling that they were insincere.

thanks for the help and thanks for being understanding

Well sounds to me that you put yourself in a subservient position by driving everyone around everywhere like a chauffeur. The guys sounded like they already had their circle of friends, and you were sort of just a guest there for a day. Your level of interaction and confidence would have determined how well or how poorly they treated you. Did you make any efforts to talk to the guys, instead of just the girls?

Anyhow, what's done is done. Learn from it, move on, and improve.
