| If you're going to use a facebook message, make it indirect. A message I've used that works:
Title it "Random..."
Alright, this is going to sound ridiculous, but I have to tell you this story...
My friend Kevin was trying to look up someone on facebook and I was looking over his shoulder and I saw your profile pic and thought you were my friend from high school, so I told him this whole story about how you were like my best friend for two years and how we had huge crushes on each other for most of the time we knew each other but never dated. And he's like, "What happened?" and I told him you had commitophobia and I was going to go into more detail but as I was saying it I looked down again at your pic and saw your name... obviously not my high school friend, her name is Katie... so then my story died. So Kevin is looking at me waiting for a story, but I'm having this internal battle with myself, trying to figure out if I should just continue the story and play it off like you were the girl or if I should just admit to him that I didn't read your name in time... so I went with playing it off like you were the girl. This backfired, though, cuz then Kevin clicked on your profile and, of course, your high school is different than mine, so he's like, "Did you just make all that shit up?"
Anyway, I thought it was pretty funny, kind of reminded me of "Jenny" by Flight of the Conchords.
Your ex-high school crush,
(Insert name here)
p.s. hope you've gotten over your commitophobia
