I can really see this community as a a great learning source to initiate me into manhood. Im new, got no fuckin clue what im doin out there. But you gotta start somewhere.

Anyway. First im trying to work on at the moment is to control my laughter. I was with family and friends, and the oportunity arised to embarrass my mother. I put my hand on her shoulder and said to her, "Hey mum, have you taken your medication?"

Now they started laughing, and with all my strength i could not keep a straight face. I want to keep that tension for longer without, relieving the moment. So can any1 share advice on how i could control my laughter in the future?

Wow, a question I haven't seen before.
My suggestion would be to think about something else completely immediately after you say it, preferable something not remotely funny.

Hey thanks for the suggestion! I will try that. A few others things i was thinking about in relation to my question......

A. I didn't laugh before they did, only after i noticed they laughed at the joke. So in that sense i guess its ok to laugh.

B. With a bit of practice i could learn to control my laughter, but im afraid i will go completely to the other extreme and unconsciously forget to laugh at anything. Ultimately i guess i should aim a for a little smirk, in relation to the situation i described above.

Try picturing yourself as a different person when you need to refrain from laughing, a serious person who doesn't laugh, a person that is the antithesis of your normal personality. Basically don't say the joke as yourself, but rather as a different persona all together. This is what most comics do when they go onstage, they have a completely different persona and sometimes even a completely different voice.

Brilliant question!

I get this alot too...

The way I'm working on it is finding your funniest friend and bounce jokes back and forth..

My friend is so funny. If I say something that's hilarious, he'll always fire back with something funnier...The object is to fire back another joke but with a straight face!
Act like you didn't acknowledge the joke whilst keeping your 'next bullet' relevant to it

Personally, its really easy for me to hold back laughter and things like that. I can easily just keep a straight face through the funniest things happening. But I don't do it a lot and I don't like doing it. I think you shouldn't hold back laughter unless you're laughing when nobody else is and longer than everybody else. Still, its good to have fun and keep a positive vibe with you. If you want advice then just avoid looking at other people. If you look at somebody while they're smiling or laughing then you'll most likely reflexively imitate them. Its instinct. So avoid eye contact and just don't look at people, that should make it easier.

I have this problem. Sometimes I get into strange laughing (giggling?) fits where I can't stop laughing. It's annoying. I'll try some of the stuff here.
