Attraction
Thousands of years ago when cavemen ruled the earth and basic instincts controlled our actions, survival and replication was the only point of life. Mating for women was decided by Replication values, such as wide hips, young age to birth, and other body assets. While to men it was about Survival, the tribal leaders, men with power to keep women alive, and protect them from other men were what mattered. While today not every women needs a strong man, and not every man is looking for a mate so the interactions of mating have changed quite a bit. (Seductionbase)
The majority of the population does not know exactly what 'pick up' is, and this is because 'pick up artists' try to hide it from the general public. Until the book The Mystery Method was released in 2003 “The Mystery Method provides a step-by-step game plan that structures “courtship” - which is the quaint, old-fashioned term for the sequence of events that results in guys getting laid...” (Mystery 3). His book released the first step-by-step guide to attraction which simply states in order to attract a female, one must first open her, build attraction through the use of 'Higher Value Stories' and banters while being emotionally non-responsive; then after receiving 'Indicators of Interest' to move on and show her you are attracted to her (The Mystery Method). As David Deangelo says “Attraction is not a choice”.
With this knowledge many women would find this 'art' very demoralizing, as if men are only in it 'to get laid' but this opinion is very one-sided. The leading cause of joining 'the community' is to 'get the girl they love' (Chief) while “critics of pickup oftentimes misinterpret that to mean that it's ALL about sex when it is, in fact, about pretty much anything and everything you can think of. Pickup is first and foremost about sex, but it is also about expression, freedom, discipline, self-actualization, self-discovery, psychology, art, socialization, and even enlightenment if you choose to take it that far.” (Chief)
Part of becoming so attractive to the opposite sex is your lifestyle. 'Pick up' focuses on changing your old life into a one of excitement, energy, and value. “Women are looking at your Body Language and Voice tone to determine who you really are. The way you communicate reveals your character. And if shes going to have sex with you, your character affects her future, even if only for tonight or tomorrow.” (Dicarlo 79) The qualities of an attractive person are to be admired and desirable, relaxed and confident, behaving naturally, their time and energy has value, and they are socially intelligent (seductionbase) all of these are worked on by study 'Pick Up'.
Now knowing what the basic's of pick-up are, one would often ask “Is it acceptable for a highschooler to be learning this?” Chief responded with “...that depends on who you're learning from. I definitely wouldn't recommend something like Mystery Method for high school kids, but the teachings of David Deangelo could be very beneficial for a high schooler, as it was for me.” A lot of different methods teach different aspects of 'game' as it is called, while 'The Mystery Method' discusses a lot of bar 'game' and club 'game', methods such as David Dangelo's focus on eliciting the alpha male qualities in a man. It is one's own decision on whether or not they think its appropriate, surely nothing is appropriate without the equal level of maturity.
Pick up is a lot more than techniques and pick up lines. Its about improving your life to become someone that is confident enough to approach women. With this gift of knowing how to make yourself into someone who is attractive, comes responsibility. There is a quote in the 'community' that goes like this “Leave her better than you found her.” This phrase expresses the fact that every real 'pick up artist' has a deeper greater love for women other than sex. Whether you are in it for sex, or in it for love, you have to have a great deal of compassion for the women you hit on, and patience for yourself. Thats why not everyone succeeds at learning 'pick up', but in fact, the only people who succeed are the ones who can look at their life from a womens point of view. “Pickup can be respectful to women in the sense that it's supposed to be about making them feel happier” (Chief).
