So I was out tonight with my brother and some of his friends, most of which I know, for his birthday. There was also 2 girls there, a 7.5 I had seen before but never really talked to and a 6 I had never met. It was obvious that the 6 was the mother hen so I just went with my 'normal' personality which uses a lot of cocky/funny, teasing, and playfully dropping occasional sexual innuendo. I try not to come off too immature/unintelligent while doing this.

I kinda had 7.5 as my target so I thought all was going well when I was getting IOIs from her and the 6 was more hanging out with the other guys. Later after we moved from the sports bar to the club I was getting even more IOIs from the 7.5 and some kino and started to get IOIs from the 6 who was still mostly hanging out/dancing with the other guys (I'm not good at dancing so I avoided the dance floor). Eventually my brother tells me that the 6 really likes me, so I'm like OK, play it cool and just switch targets.

So the next time I find them they're at a quiet spot and before I can say anything the 7.5 asks if the 6 can have my number. The 6 was giving me this kinda longing look so I knew that she wanted it but my first reaction is to not give anything away for free so, attempting to be c&f, I ask "why would I want to do that?" The 6 took it seriously and started arguing with the 7.5 for even asking me and more when the 7.5 tried to ask me again. So I excused myself to find the other guys, really I just wanted to figure out what happened, what to do next and let the situation settle down enough for me to do it. Before I found them again they had gone to the coffee shop across the street with my brother, then left him and some friends there to go back to the sports bar.

Obviously the wording of what I said wasn't the best and most of the tone and expression required to pull it off could have been lost in the noise/light of the club. Possibly she reacted this way because she was less physically attractive? Still aiming high, but I would like to as a minimum add her to my social circle. My brother knows her #, is friends with her and several of her friends so I have some options there. I was thinking a simple text, something like "So you seemed a bit taken back when 7.5 asked for my # last night", suggestions appreciated

Yea, you nailed it. she was a 6 and probably had lower self esteem then most 8s or 9s therefore when you said something like that it hurt her. You can tell she had low self esteem because she got her friend to ask you for her number instead of her asking her self. That was indication number one, you gotta remember cocky is great for 8s and 9s because they need to be put in check sometimes to know the universe doesnt revolve around them. The six knew that, she knew she was either too shy or had no chance, and even though she did, you ruined it by confirming her beliefs.


All is not lost though, you gained some insight and wisdom from this a good lesson, the same reason we rarely neg 6's is the same reason why the cocky funny response failed, calibration is key always.
