This is an area i have a lot of trouble in. often i'll get something like

"oh my god, i love your hair"

"you're cute"

"you're hot"

"i love your boots"

now, depending on the situation, sometimes i'll reply with something cocky like "i know, right? being cute is a problem i've had to deal with my entire life... yatta yatta yatta" that will usually get a rise out of a girl if i've just met her, but it doesn't exactly work after me and the target have been talking for a while, it just makes me seem shallow.

soooo, usually i just say "thanks" which is usually followed by an uncomfortable silence.

That's nice of you to say, but you're just attracted to me.

It calls her out on liking you and gives you a way to immediately put her on the spot. If she stays with you she's interested. Just know you have some initial attraction and start talking to her.

Something that worked well for me to grasp the concept is this: When do you tell a women she is cute, or has nice boots, etc.? When you are attracted to her and you want an excuse to talk to her.
