Its easy for me and probably most ppl to gauge an outgoing girl but I can't figure this one shy girl out. Heres the situation.

Shes in my gym class, I'm being an alpha male talking to everyone, being athletic, having fun blah blah. We talk during class and I always walk and talk with her as we leave class. Mainly small talk which includes me getting on her case for being shy and not showing effort in class. She'll always say hi to me around school and she always smiles at me when we talk. I mean like even if I'm not being funny, just by seeing me she smiles. She'll answer my questions but just doesn't seem to ask questions back. She'll laugh at my jokes and/or just smile. I've called her out for being shy and she responds with
HER:"I am, but I'm more open with ppl I know, but I don't know you."
ME: "so you don't like me?"
HER: "no, I don't know you but your nice."
ME: "o thanks, I appreciate it...change subject."

Where should I take this situation? More importantly are her actions enough of an IOI to continue to pursue her?

When she said that she does not know you then it is a sign that...

Guess what...

She would like to get to know you more than just a guy who talks to and
flirts with her...

You need to ask her questions (open ended) in order to get her talking...
Find out something that she is passionate about (ask her) and then talk about
that... and don't be an ass and start disrespecting what she is passionate
about...

Just really get interested in getting to know the real person behind the shell...

Tell her, "Well, lets get to know each other then... lets get a bite to eat after
school today..." or... "Lets meet at [place] after school today or this weekend..."
