This is the point that I wanted to make. Just because people are inherently unpredictable doesn't mean that psychology isn't a science. It may be a probabilistic science, but that's legitimate.

That said, I think that pickup is more art than science mostly because the people practicing it typically think of themselves more as artists than as scientists. Mystery, I think, is a definite exception. I enjoyed his book not because I intend to emulate him exactly but because he used experimentation and the scientific method to come to conclusions about what works and why.

I hope to be a natural someday, but I am naturally a scientifically inquisitive person. Understanding the principles helps me a great deal even when I'm not running canned material at all.

I think its most accurate to say its both a science and an art.
clearly it has a scientific basis (as scientific as psychology is) but in practice, the component of self is crucial which makes it an art.

regardless of that
people either care why it works or they dont

I'm like you. naturally scientifically curious, I find pua more interesting from a scientific point of view to the extent I'd rather "reinvent the wheel" than go with what's known. I have enough natural game to hook up with women that interest me but some education along the way never hurts.

I think the real question is...does it matter if it is an art or science? Are we going to appraoch it differently if it is one or the other? No.
