so i have just moved from a small farming, red neck town in Iowa to Connecticut where the people here are very different. I'm very shy with first meetings and i hope i can overcome that and get to meet some girls. i am excited to join this forum and hope i can overcome the problems that im facing

im 22 years old
i just landed a job as a project manager at a construction factory, so no girls there.
i never really had a good relationship with a girl, just the "nice shoes, lets fuck" routine. and im looking for something more than that
i am into sports, im into keeping fit and in shape.
i am living alone right now, i have only a few friends from work
i hunt, fish, and anything outdoors. i hated where i lived in iowa, i did not want to end up like my dad running a farm all my life so i had to leave.
i have been living here for about 2 months and need some help getting to meet some people.

Duzer,

Can you articulate where your shyness stems from? I would like to be able to offer some insight, but without knowing a little bit more about you I am not confident that I can offer anything other than the generic, "be confident in who you are."

i just added some more to my first post, as you can see, i think my shyness is from the lack of people in the town in iowa, called monticello. what i mean by that is, i already know everyone, and the conversations were always the same shit. nothing exciting ever took place there and i think thats why i am shy, i never got to meet new people, and now that i am, i dont know what to do

@Duzer - I think you're finding yourself in a situation a lot of people are in (me included). I just moved from a medium-sized town in Texas to a big city on the southeast coast.

First, it helps to befriend someone that you can at least go out with you, but my first week here I was very hesitant to go uptown by myself. I asked myself how many people I would meet sitting in my apartment, and I went uptown all by myself. It was intimidating and awkward at first, but I'm glad I did it because I met some interesting people that still play a pivotal role in my social realm to this day.

I think in your position I would tell myself that I'm new here, and that nobody knows me. I can re-invent myself and I have nothing to lose. I think this will give you confidence (falsely or not) that will enable you to approach and meet people, which will invariably translate to more confidence. If 'shy' is a personality trait embedded deeply within your persona that might never go away, but there are ways around it.

I hope this helps/make sense, but feel free to probe further.
