I haven't read Sol's book yet, but since I respect him so much, it's now at the top of my reading list. I'll get back to you on that one.
Now, as for mine... a good thing for newbies is DYD by David DeAngelo and 'Attraction is not a Choice', also by the same author. They're fun reads, I sub-spect you'll get through both in about one evening. Kinda gives you a good intuition into how women think.
Second, the timeless classic 'The Mystery Method' - little overused on these boards, but still worth more than it's weight in pure gold if you want to put a structure around a sarge.
Finally, for a good finishing touch on comfort and general conversation, Juggler method.
The four aforementioned titles are what I consider the absolute basics of the pickup arts. I refuse to hang out with anyone who isn't at least familiar with the concepts outlined in these.
However, you would not be a full-rounded artist without your bedroom basics handled, so check out David Shade's phone sex manual (mp3 format, so that you know exactly what the right tonality and pacing are in dirty talk). This last piece is much more powerful if you have a background in Speed Seduction or NLP in general. However, I believe you'll connect the dots quicker if you're familiar with the neurolinguistic basics of seduction, so don't dive in at the deep end and try to plough through Bandler's books - really, all you need to know when you're internalizing Shade's stuff is basic pain/pleasure and sliding anchoring.
While processing all the above materials, make an effort to go out and apply as much of it as you can. Don't push yourself too hard though - just dropping in a casual line with your female friends or discussing your findings with them should suffice. Emphasis on 'female' in the previous sentence. With enough devotion, you'll swallow the above materials within a week. A basic fact I hope I don't need to point out is that you'll get much more out of them if you take notes.

Adam Lyons stuff is pretty basic, and pretty natural game oriented. Mehow's stuff is as well, being an analysis of what naturals do that makes them so successful.
