There is a difference between being funny and being witty... if you have a serious personality then you would be far more suited to dry wit. My dad is very dead-pan and has a dry sense of humour, and he's hilarious. Same with my mums new partner... as for describing it, well, that's kinda hard.

Well, if you're a social person then you just kinda pick this stuff up. How much time do you spend with your friends and family? There is no book, no structure or system out there that will just teach you to be witty. It's something inside you that needs to be brought out.

You said you're a serious person, but are you happy? I've never met anyone who didn't have some kind of sense of humour... maybe you just need to work on being more happy and/or expressing that happiness.

Good point, One thing ive been learning is that i have to be more friendly to people, i am kinda of a jerk and only open up to people after theyve gained my respect
Also, I know just from reading alot of C&F lines, ive kind of picked up on the humor, it kinda seems like the basic themes are all the same and u can just adapt it to your situation.
It seems that if i really get into it alot it just grows on me, but i dont know any other good resources. TV and books dont really help, it has to be real world stuff.
I would like to be a more humorous guy in other situations.

I have a very hard time believing that you have NO sense of humour unless you are some kind of fucking robot. What I'm suspecting you're not telling us here is that somewhere, some time, some asshole put you down about not being funny, or you somehow perceive others as thinking you're not funny, and you're letting that get to you. Don't let that get to you. If you buy into the belief that you have no sense of humour - it will most definitely become a reality.

Not everyone shares the same sense of humour as you. Find people that do. Making others laugh is one of the best feelings in the world, and if people don't laugh at your jokes (that's their right) then why bother trying to make them laugh?

I used to be very much the same - hugely uptight. I've always managed to make my close friends laugh, but if ever I felt pressured to make others laugh, I'd get stifled into my own brain and shut down. Others have said pretty bad things about me - things like me not being funny. I ignore it. There are times when my jokes will bomb. Others when they are awesome. You get better at it with time.

But as you go out, become more socially outgoing, and open with people, you will eventually become more humorous. It's part of the whole process of becoming a good conversationalist and putting others at ease around you. But being funny should not be your sole intent - there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Play the balance - be serious when it's warranted. Be funny when appropriate. Build affection at the right times. And be the sex-worthy man.

Cheers,

Q.

So much of being funny goes into how you deliver the lines. Just watch Chandler on Friends or Jerry on Seinfeld. With sarcasm keep that cheeky smile while you deliver the line. Confidence plays a huge role in delivering a line.

If you read David Ds book you should be some what funnier already.
His theory is pretty much sarcasm, but not pushing it to much.

I used to be extremely unfunny. Because I was so unfunny I really respected the ability to be funny in others, but I had very few friends. I ended up watching a shitload of comedy by myself, and somehow through the laughing at it and copying each comedians style when I was around my few friends I developed a sense of humor. It's a skill that can definetely be learned. Find someone you find funny and watch all their stuff, attempt to practice, rinse and repeat.

I also recommend melvin helitzters comedy writing secrets. It will go over how to be funny in great detail and will help you develop your sense of humor.

one way you can make other smile and laugh for real is when someone makes a joke laugh as hard as you can for like 2 seconds and then stop and put a serious face looking straight to the eyes of the guy who made the joke.. your friends will pee their pants from laughing hah.. it works for me.

this might not be the solution to your problems but it is my two cents to make you smile from time to time.. peace bro

Being funny is something natural, you can't just learn it or anything. People make others laugh and others don't. What you can do is learn to make people smile by making certain comments that are comedic. You can't watch a stand up by Dane Cook and become funny, you have to start by making people smile from witty, sarcastic things

Personally i like to make people by being sarcastic and witty and it seems to work.

why can humor not be learned? is their I humor gene? wtf????

I have to disagree because I was one unfunny mofo, but now I get girls telling me all the time that the reason they love me is my sense of humor. Stop being such a pessimist it's bad for you.
