I have opened with success, using an opener, a time-constraint and negs, but that's only a minute long. I need a solid 5minute game and i'm finding it hard to come up with some transitioning before i go any further. My AFC brain told me to interview them with normal AFC questions and soon blew it. I have reached my first sticking point.

I know that the first 5minutes is most crucial. I know you're supposed to convey that you're the most interesting person in the whole club. But I need examples of bad-ass transitions before i could create my own. Any suggestions, advices, or examples would be really helpful guys.

Hi Leaf, I feel your pain! :?

On Sat night, I met this HB through some chick I half know (she cut my hair once...a year ago. I bumped into her and her HB friend). I was drunk and negged her so much that she gave me the finger (and smiled a few seconds later). So meanwhile I am thinking "sweet, this is working." Then the drunkeness clouded my mind and I screwed it just like you did.

Oh well, a lesson learned - as soon as someone replies to this thread!

And for some stupid reason, my AFC mind was making me nervous around this HB. I have to work on that!

Cool 8)

This is a hard one because after a smooth opening, there are so many directions that you could go in. Sinn's guide (a really good read by the way) says that you should be ready to do most of the talking for the first 5 minutes of the conversation.

There are plenty of pre-packaged games or routines that you can find in abundance on this site, but if you want to stay flexible and come off as genuine, it's important to be able make quick observations about the target and/or set that provide some convo points (and keep observing throughout the conversation). If you need, games/routines are really helpful to fill in any gaps along the way, but I admit I'm pretty bad with these. I once started talking to this girl about these crazy red boots she was wearing and I said she had a Wonder Woman thing going on, which in turn got us talking about old school cartoons and shit, and then we got to talking about who the hottest ones were (Daphne from Scooby Doo man!). Whatever it is, the objective is to move her to the point where she's actively engaged and helping carry the conversation, after which you should hopefully be able to try moving in for some kind of close. Overall, a 5-10 minute conversation should be all you need to get her number, get her on the dance floor, or whatever.

Another example is how drlog mentioned the girl cut his hair a year ago, so saying something like "Damn, I haven't had a haircut I've liked since you did my hair a year ago..." will hopefully get her talking about something she's interested in (unless she hates her job...) and you branch out from there. Also, use any rapport you build as a theme to fall back on from time to time - for instance, if you see someone walking by with a ridiculous mullet or something, ask if she thinks you could pull that off and if she could hook you up with that style.

Anyhow, I hope that helps somewhat. I know it's easier said than done to be a spontaneous talker, but if you think about it, you do it all the time with your friends. I personally find the approach/open much tougher, and you seem to have that down. Once you've got the girl interested and waiting to hear something from you (sometimes anything!), just be creative and let it out man.

Wow thanks guys. i'm really just looking for that solid structure in the first 5minutes for the girl to be interested in me enough to go on further.

It sounds fair enough to observe the target as much as i can to find "commonalities" between both of us. That's so the missing ingredient i've been trying to find. But i guess i have to do it in a real unnoticeable way to avoid DLVs. And this phase all takes place at A3 i presume.

Rigoberto thanks for the advice man, it's really helpful.

transitioning is something that takes a bit of practice dude, especially if you're not very outgoing/outspoken.

i've found that normal AFC questions aren't that bad as long as you mix it up a bit and add some random, interesting stories. you can find millions of things to talk about if you actually listen to the girls. yes, this can seem AFC but if you mix in c&f, tease a bit and quickly pop into a new thread then you'll be golden. just remember that YOU control the conversation so cut boring threads.

in the juggler method book it says that the in the first 10 minutes or so you should be prepared to adhere to the 90-10 rule: you should be prepared to do 90% of the talking.

it's kinda hard to explain what i do but here's the general outline...
i normally run my opener, give a false time constraint and neg a bit, then i "suddenly" notice something interesting about them (i've been looking for this since the set opened, you can also use situational stuff about the venue or other people) you can then pull some c&f and make them laugh a bit, neg the target and tell a few DHV stories.

the best friends test works quite well too, you can use either the one below or the shampoo one... ( actually, you can use whatever you want, this is just a suggestion)

pua: are you guys best friends?
girls: yeah!
pua: i could tell, you have the same mannerism and facial expressions
girls: really?! wow!

from there they'll either start talking about how they know each other or you can ask them about it

be sure that you have a few dhv stories memorized to fall back on for A2 whenever you feel that you need to cut a thread or if your run out of stuff to talk about. with practice this will all just come naturally.

Ive found that the best type of transitions are observation ones.

Transition: Hey you look like you do something important.
Transition: You must be the youngest in the family.
Transition: You look like you're a lot of fun/trouble.
Transition: You must be from out of state.
Transition: You like your from some exotic country.

Does'nt matter if your right or wrong the object is to get them talking.

Yeayuh, hxc87 is right about me not being that outgoing and outspoken. The problem is I always just speak about the conclusion of what pops out my mind lol. But I think you guys gave me just the right concepts to hit the hook point. I'm now getting ready to go sarging this saturday and give it all I got from what yall have taught me. I'll be posting in my field report soon. Once again, thanks guys.
