Wahooo they have made some changes to the board (good and bad). But one of the most prominent ones is the rating system for posts. Naturally the stickies are all rated 4 and 5 stars (or else they wouldn't be good enough to be stickies) but no one really utilizes the rating the system for other posts. Every now and then a really great post comes through and it gets 4 or 5 stars but take a look now....a lot of dull stars that need lit up!

So there are two solutions
1. Everyone start writing AWESOME 5-star-worthy posts (this would be ideal)
2. Start rating posts. Even if you don't reply or just reply with something short. If you can take the time to write a response you can take the time to click on the stars at the top of the page. Yeah some people may get their feelings hurt if their post receives one or two stars but then that will teach them that they need to write something more of value.

If everyone starts using the rating system we will be able to distinguish great posts from bad posts without having to ever read them all--that'd be greatttt....there are some good threads that have many responses and are well-developed but no one has voted on them!

So as Diddy said...."vote or die"

...ok not really....but please vote!

Great idea, I hate looking through junk just to find a good post that I can put some insight too, or learn from.

I'm so glad that this wasn't about the "HB" rating system! That thing turns my stomach.

The 5-star rating system for threads can be very powerful if we properly rate stuff though. Don't just give every thread a 5! Properly rate it with what it deserves, from a 1-5. If nothing ever gets a 1-3, then 4's and 5's are useless!

hopefully im proved wrong, but i think the rating system will ultimately fail,

generally people will only rate the extremely good posts, or the odd time the terrible ones maybe, leaving us with a small percentage of the posts rated, and at that mainly rated fives stars, not really a great overview

Even in that event, the unrated ones are generally going to be the ones with less value. Thus, looking for 5 star posts will make finding good posts easier, if not an exact science of ranking all of the threads on the forum.

that is of course under the assumption that that post has been read by an individual who will rate the posts ..many good posts can be read by people and then not rated as the person reading it doesnt bother..

I think the threads get the stars they deserve. Some threads are like the prom queen, and then some are fat with bad makeup...
