I just came up with an idea. tell me what you think.

A set is at a packed bar. I approach and say "this is the best looking spot on the whole bar!" I move myself in the middle of them making like I am talking about the actual spot on the bar and not them. I turn my back to the bar and start an opening. "I'm just getting a drink and I'll be back with my friends. We were just discussing... blah blah... what do you think?

I couldnt see that working unless your one seriously funny dude and can say things with alot of humour attached to your words and verrrry confident

It's fine apart from the false time constraint. Seriously, you're at the bar. You don't need to explain to them why you're at the bar.

thanks for your thoughts. I obviously will have to try it and tighten up any loose ends in the routine. It's a variance on something I saw Style do in a video. I am just trying to personalize it and make it my own.

As far as the time constraint goes, what would be a better way to go about doing it? I understand the purpose is to keep the set from feeling uncomfortable in your presence. It seems important as otherwise you will creep them out.

Also I read, I think in this forum, a nice little trick to make you seem popular and important in the club. Making arrangements before hand to have everything "on the house." That would be great to do the above approach and have the bartender make my drink without me asking and say "here, it's on the house." Or "compliments of the boss." right in front of the set.

My cousin used to bar tend here in Tampa and she would have my drink waiting for me when I sat down at the bar. She has since moved to Chicago for school. I miss her.
