Hey guys...my topic title is the question. Do you guys find it difficult/somewhat uncomfortable to maintain eye contact with your parents? I can't figure out why..but it just feels uncomfortable to me, and i usually avoid EC. Anyone feel like this or have any insight on why this is for me?

You have an internal conflict. You have certain unconcious beliefs about which could range from standing up to your parents to locking eyes with them to believing it disrespectful.

These resources may help you.

i maintain ec with my parents no matter what. espicially when they are yelling at me. for some reason whenever i hold ec with them when their yelling, my punishment isnt that bad but when i look away and avoid it like a bitch its more severe..? its weird i know. i dont get it but it works for me and my parents

I havn't had so much of a problem with EC. I did find it impossible and immoral to out alpha my Dad though.

He inturrupted me in front of all of our female family when I was telling a joke, and I cut him off, and we just kept yelling like 2-year olds at eachother (jokingly), but I just let him butt in after quite a while of this bantering, and I knew I'd come off as 'losing'

some social games just don't work with family

I agree, don't try to out-alpha your father even if you can, that's just a really asshole thing to do.

I whole heartedly disagree about out alphing my father. Its gets to a certain point when someone, even your dad, needs to be put in their place.

When my dad tries to cut me off and humilliate me in front of people...I stop being nice. I literally treat him like an 8 year old or I start praising Rush Limbaugh to make him shut up.

I have a great father, but he can be a douche lord many a time.

As for EC. I stare my parents in the eyes and don't ever blink. No wonder they stopped trying to lecture me about everything.

i personally have NEVER had to out alpha my dad, he's never put me in a situation where I'd have to.

BUT on the other hand i have an uncle who is the complete opposite.
I give him smart ass answers looking straight into his eyes and giving a smile.

Why wouldn't you want that sense of power to know that you are in total control of your life though? As long as you're letting anyone out-alpha you, you're still living under the power of someone else. Wouldn't you want to be the dominant one who gets what they want and has to answer to no one?

WTF does that even mean? OUT alpha... lol

If I guess right, it's never cool to out alpha any of your friends...

Out alpha your father?? What are you guys talking about?!

Seriously, you guys have taken this pua stuff way too far if you think your dad is trying to amog you. Why the hell would I be in competition with my parents?!

Waffle, how old are you? I can understand you having that stand point if you're still young but please don't tell me you're over 18.

Sounds good. I guess I won't tell you my age. :D

I understand that you have a great deal or respect for your parents and disdain the idea of someone disrespecting their's, but everyone has ways of dealing with their parents. Its never really a competition with my father, more or less him being stuborn and I the same. Try being asked the same question 30 different ways and someone telling you you're wrong...and lets not forget the arrongant manner in which insults are delivered. Just understand that I give respect to those who show it as well. Other than our rouse, we usually get along okay. And I'm sure no one sees it as a competition.
