I'm curious to hear some opinions on this:

Is it just me or has mainstream pickup become more about making money than helping people?

well when there is a money making oppurtunity someone is going to capitilize, its just the way shit works. And what kind of guy would NOT want to get help getting laid? I still wish it was abit on the downlow so we could feel slightly superior by being in like a secret club sorta...

I don't believe there is a mainstream pickup. I think dating sites and the way of the AFC's is mainstream pickup/dating. I still believe the seduction/pickup community to still be very much so underground.

I agree. Pickup isn't an active secret per se; it's not something hidden. Pickup is a passive secret; it's not widespread enough to be recognized (major cities are the exception).

PUA is hidden right under everyone's noses.

What I was more referring to was that the most notable members in the PUA community give their services but no longer care wether or not people are actually succeeding as long as they get paid.
