Mystery Method works for some. It doesn't for others. I loved it in theory, but when I got out into the field, I found it made me think too much.
What step am I at? What step do I need to get to? What step can I get to? What do I need to do to get to the next step? etc. etc.
I do feel it gave me a good understanding of theory, but only because it was structured in a similar manner to what I use to study for classes. I also know a lot of people who couldn't understand what it was all about until I explained it in a different light to them.

Just to be sure to know that M3 is not the only structure of the game, it's just Mystery's perceived structure of the game through his experience. There are other "skeletons" you can use.
Uh oh, someone's busting out perception
I agree, there are different perceived "skeletons" which is why we have different methods. However, like a skeleton, there are certain things that can not be changed without hindering performance. All the "skeletons" are built up around the same principals, with the same functionality in mind. Different skeletons fit different people better.
This is a good thing to keep in mind though. No "guru" has the end-all method. They merely have a "skeleton" with which you must create your own being. That "being" is what we would call natural game.
