I wanted to get this in the lounge but I don't have enough posts yet and I'm not gonna post fluff the for the sake of it.

Does anyone have any thoughts about how to use musical performance to enhance your prospects? Obviously playing and singing well are obvious ones, but in terms of your onstage persona, how are you gonna make sure the chicks want to meet you afterwards? My initial thought is not to allow myself to give off, even for a second, that I take what I'm doing seriously or find it deeply meaningful. However, in terms of crowd interaction, how to maximise value and communicate in a way that will actually make it easier to open afterwards?

I realise this is kind of vague but I'm just brainstorming at the moment. Does anyone have any experience of this kind of thing?

Girls will naturally open you after a good performance. You don't need to exert much effort to open them.

When I go to a mall to buy clothes or cleaning products for my apartment, part of my sarging repertoire is to sing at the public videoke where college girls loiter around. I've noticed a few weeks ago that more girls tend to open you when you sing a wide variety of songs conveying different emotions. Incorporating an up-down-up rhythm into the type of energy of your song selection also seems to help in increasing the number of girls opening you.

For instance,
  • Smooth - Santana
Californication - Red Hot Chili Peppers
    High - The Speaks
    Faithfully - Journey
Sweet Child o' Mine - GNR
    Final Countdown - Europe
    Nightbird - Kalapana
    The Hurt - Kalapana
Girls will smile after your song selection. Smile back. Girls will open you with, "Do you sing in a band?"

You should have a canned answer. Something like, "Uhm, No. I sing for a funeral parlor."

Girls will giggle and kino you.

Ping their kino.

Go into wide rapport then into bail out mode.

Girls will number close you before you leave. Some will even set up a date. Play hard to get then go for the date.

The videoke thing sounds great! Unfortunately we don't have such fun things in the UK - we're too inhibited to sing publicly in the daytime and without alcohol!

What I'm doing is an open mic, so I'm not a named performer or anything and noone's come to see me, so I have to win the audience over from scratch.

You're right, girls do tend to ask if you're in a band if they're interested, and I like your response - I'll go for "optician" myself I think :)

I like your song selection, but some of the songs are a bit awkward with just me and my guitar!

Any thoughts about things to say while on stage, as you potentially have the ear of dozens of girls at once - I don't know how your videoke works but you can get away with chatting on stage quite a bit at open mics as long as you're saying something interesting!

If you want to bait the girls to kino you a lot, try crocodile farmer. It's field tested. Here's the entire crocodile farmer thing, what-is-your-job-vt131511.html

What to say on stage? Not sure. I don't say anything. Maybe you can say something like: "I would like to sing you this song. I'm a crocodile farmer by the way... blah, blah, blah."

Personally I don't sing, just play guitar, one thing I've noticed hundreds of times over the years at gigs is that most guitarists (well stage musicians in general) are way too serious on stage, they don't move around, spend the entire time looking down at their instrument and not into the crowd (lock eyes with a girl in the audience during a guitar solo, watch their face melt), seriously I suggest watching some videos of old 70's/80's rock/metal bands, typically your spandex wearing bands (think David Lee Roth) their entire stage persona was directed towards the ladies and in Steve Vai's words "when you're touring with David Lee Roth, blowjobs kinda grow on ya".

If you're looking for some inbetween jokes/banter etc, check out Dean Martin in this video

Masterful working of a crowd.

There's my answer!

Dean Martn was talking to the crowd as if they were an intimate lover, that's exactly the kind of vibe I'd love to create! Johnny Carson was great too - a few seconds of direct eye contact and smiling and then gets a round of applause with one comment!

It's interesting that women seem to intuitively understand the vibe to create on stage - there are loads of great female singers at this open mic and they all create this vibe of being a person first and performer second. By contrast, a lot of guys seem to be so into being a performer that they forget to be human!

Thanks for your response Musterion, exactly what I needed!

(By the way, I think your not giving a damn thing is pretty good advice in itself!) 8)

I don't like the idea of acting like you're not into the music. Get into it, be passionate, and put on a good performance. Maybe smile at a girl every now and again if she's looking at you, but otherwise focus on your performance. Then when you're done, go talk to the girls just like normal. Don't ask what she thought of your performance or anything, she'll probably compliment you on her own. It gives you a nice DHV before you even talk to her.

Just thought I'd clarify what I meant about not taking the music too seriously.

What I meant was the difference between say Bootsy Collins on stage and I dunno, Nickelback (maybe bad example) but generally nowadays you have guys stood on stage trying to look all moody and deep and brooding, instead of having a blast. If you want to see great showmanship, watch Bootsy, of course you don't have to wear star glasses and glitter but the mood/SPAM he creates is so infectious.

Both types are 'into the music', but which would you be more excited to hang out with after they come off stage?

I think what's a real turn off is playing popular music but acting like it's great art somehow and expecting people to think seriously about the "issues" you're raising. Popular music is at it's best when it's cool and fun and sexy and venturing into more serious territory can really kill the vibe, especially with the ladies.

I realise that it's important to have passion for what you do - if you don't care, why would you be doing it? However, I think as a performer, it's more about being calm and collected and judging what you're doing against the audience reaction, which is hard to do if you're in a state of high emotion yourself.

I guess it depends what kind of music. If you're playing Blink 182, jump around and smile. If it's Metallica, be angry and aggressive. If it's Nirvana, be bored out of your mind. You get the idea, feel the emotion of the song you're playing.
