I didn't say there was anything wrong with saying hi, but there are 500 post saying this exact same thing
If your being direct after you say hello you tell the girl how cute or interesting you think they look then ask for their name and so forth

I too am growing weary of what seems like every day posting this same exact thread. As I said in another one the greatest opener is whatever fits the situation and works, whether it's "hi", a routine opener, a situational opener, whatever it is, if it opens then it opens, it is not as big of a deal as some people make it out to be.
