Gorilla Theory is something that I have talked about from time to time and even discussed on my former blog. This is the idea of social programming. It's an interesting concept.
Some researches and I can't remember where in the United States did some studies with gorilla's that they held in captivity. The researchers started out by placing 3 gorillas’ that didn't know each other in a cage. Every so often they would hang a banana from the cage.
The gorilla's could smell the food and would try to get the banana but it was too high and just out of reach. After doing this several times the researchers then decided to add some basic square blocks to the cage as well. After a while of the gorilla's pushing the blocks around they made some steps out of them and where able to retrieve the banana. The gorillas were happy and so were the researches at the remarkable problem solving abilities displayed by the primates.
This process went on for several days. The researchers would scatter the blocks then suspend another banana from the cage. The gorilla's would work together to assemble the blocks and get their banana from the top.
The researchers then decided a new challenge for the gorillas. One day while assembling the blocks and going for the banana the researchers decided to take a hose and completely soak the all the apes in the cage. During this time each gorilla that went for the banana would then be sprayed with water to discourage him. This process was again repeated, and the gorilla would be sprayed again.
Over all 3 original gorilla's in the cage would not go for the banana nor touch the blocks. So the researchers took out one of the original gorillas and then put a new gorilla in the cage. They then suspended a banana from the top. Over time this new gorilla figured things out and tried to assemble the blocks to get the treat. But an alarming thing happened. The other two gorillas’ would start physically attacking the new gorilla to prevent him from surely getting them wet.
This experiment was repeated over and over with consistent results. The researchers eventually swapped out all the original gorillas for new ones to the point none of the gorilla's in the cage were ever sprayed with water. However, every time a gorilla start assembling the blocks and going for the banana the other gorillas would attack him without every knowing why they were doing it. They simply did it because that was the way things had always been done.
My point here is this. A lot of information is passed around the forum simply because that's the way something has always been done. Some of the people supplying the advice are not sure why it's always been done that way but feel confident in their efforts. Because when they went for the banana they were told that was wrong.
There are some basic truths to meeting women and getting better with attracting the opposite sex. However, there are a lot of "rules" or "guidelines" that have been proven to work most of the time. Just because there are these things don't give up going for the banana and trying new things on your own. You may find a better method for getting that banana after all.
