Hey guys ive just joined, haven't done any real field work yet and am wondering just how mainstream this has gotten?? Is it still possible to open a set with "Hey guys, i need a female opinion on something?"?. Do girls just roll their eyes knowingly? Do guys blow you out of mixed sets immediately? Are routines such as Best Friends Test and C's vs. U's completely staled out at this stage? I would love to hear as much input on this as i can.

To be honest, it all depends on your your location and the age of your targets. Girls under 22 are getting pretty damn familiar w/ this stuff as are girls is high sarging cities (i.e. LA, NYC, Austin, PHX).

Bottom line DO NOT open w/ the "Is kissing cheating?" Opener, and you'll stand a far better chance.

The way I see it, is opening with "Hey guys, i need a female opinion on something?", or a variant thereof, will never be an immediate blowout, as it is perfectly possible for a guy to genuinely need a female opinion on something and nobody to get it from.

In fact, it could even end up working for you if she attempts to call you on it, you could perhaps tease her for being paranoid about people trying to pick her up (or something..)

Canned material can always work, so long as you made it up yourself, or share it with a select few. And if its not rubbish.

However, lines such as "Is kissing cheating", and others that have been used on The Pickup Artist should be consigned to the same drawer as you would put lines such as "If I could rearrange the alphabet I'd put U and I together" - i.e. The 'Not till I've had 20 shots of Tequila and think it would be funny' drawer.

I wouldn't worry too much about it being on TV, so long as you are versatile, which any good PuA would or should be. Like someone has already said, there are cooking shows and ninja movies on TV all the time, and very few are prepared to put in the effort to become one.
I think being a PuA is much more elaborate than some people give it credit for, and the community will comfortably survive this period of exposure.

Personally I don't used canned material or opinion openers. I know someone that got the response "Who do you think you are, Mystery?" After he used his opinion opener. Keep your openers simple and your dhv stories real and original.

Using opinion openers can be fine wherever you are as long as they are genuine, like the other day me and my buddy were in a bar and some guy kept grabbing his ass, so I was opening girls asking them if they thought he was gay and so on. I know there is a similar canned opener to this but that doesn't matter as this actually happened so I had no fear of getting "called out".
Also as far as using the really canned stuff like Jealous GF, who lies more? etc I think those can still be used if you're outside USA and Canada. Over here in the UK pickup is still fairly "underground", yes a few gurus have been on TV shows but the community isn't so big that i'll go out one night and see a guy using techniques. Also I've never heard of anyone over here being asked "isn't that from that "the pua" show?" or "isn't that from that book the game?". So I do think the publicly canned stuff can be used providing you are in a place where pickup hasn't really hit that hard yet.

I'd have to agree, the community in the UK is no where near as well known here in the UK as it is in the USA.

I've tried using canned material a few times and only once has someone asked me if I knew about the " game "

Also I used to think that a lot of the material used in the Game and a lot of the material posted by the American guys on here wouldn't work in the UK, but after I figured out how to use my own experiences and make up openers, negs etc my game became alot more natural and I think that's the key.

Alot of the canned material is useful, for example the compliance tests, some of the kiss closes, but if you don't learn to think on the spot and adapt eventually you will fall down.

The pickup artict and also the awful looking film that is due out won't hurt us at all, it's the same as Hitch but it will focus more directly on the Game itself. All we are really doing is becoming like those guys we all used to envy, the ones that could pickup women with out even trying, the difference is we have the added advantage of understanding what we are doing, not just getting lucky.
