So I went ahead and sent her this:
"Did you know you sound just delightful to be around? The part about human extinction got me, especially."

I figured i might get a laugh out of it, but I was guessing a snarky response judging by her profile.

She replied:
"Aw thanks, its refreshing to get a message thats exactly like all the others I get."

Now I'm guessing this is BS for two reasons, firstly, because she definitely wouldn't have replied if it was, and I assume most guys would be scared of a girl with a profile like that. Two, because this is the first i've seen her on the site.

What I'm wondering is do I keep being kind of a sarcastic smartass, and when does she deserve compliments/me actually being nice?

No expert, but I would definitely continue to be a smartass, you can do some push pull, but the push part shouldn't be equal to the pull part. For example, your next answer could be: I bet you get a ton with that lovely character hmm.. (pull), well at least you're special (push)... I guess (pull) or ...in an emo kind of special (pull). Try to be more creative than this, it's just an example. Then ask a question to keep the convo going, for example: So what's your favourite form of human extinction? Mine is a nuclear catastrophy, but I bet yours is much more interesting, I'd love to hear it.
Or something like that. You reward her behavior whenever she starts behaving normally, it doesn't have to be a direct compliment, it can also be in the push-pull form, the push being more prominent this time, like: You're a pretty awesome girl, for a weirdo So she'll know you're joking about the weirdo part, but still, it's not a direct compliment.
As I said, I'm no expert, maybe other guys can give you better advice. Good luck and keep us posted!
