Saying stuff to yourself is also known as affirmations. It requires you to do a lot of repetitions on daily basis, 2 or 3 times a day.
You have to make sure you are saying the right things.
Eventually, this is not as powerful as going out and doing things.
You can say to yourself you're strong 1000 time. Whenever, you go out and try to push heavy weight it won't help much. It might get you to the state where you try to push it, but eventually you gotta work out your muscles.
Learning pickup and Street fight is no different. You can say you are confident and know stuff but when you get the hit it hurts. The more hits you'll get the more resistance you will develop to it. The more you won't give a fuck, the more confident you'll become.
The fastest way I know of gaining confidence is getting hits. You have to start by getting small hits, less painful. When they become not painful at all you go and stretch your comfort zone.
Field time is the way to go!
