So I'm curious is there a way to go for another girl in a close group of friends if you hit on her friend right in front of her.

Friday I went to a friends "shark week" party (is there a good reason everyone is obsessed with this event?) so at this party I open up a four set they are all friends all cute girls, but one stands out. Unfortunately she came off as very defensive and not that into me at first, so I went for her friend. Much easier target who gave me IOIs the whole night. Number closed and were still chatting w/e.

As the night went on I had a good time talking to her friend, and she showed some IOIs, but I'm guessing held back because of her friend. So were facebook buddies now( my only means of contact with her). So my question is.... is there a way to salvage this, without coming off as a total asshole?
