commanding attention, respect

When I'm in a group conversation I tend get drowned out by everyone else...I end up being the quiet guy which sucks. Sometimes I have to yell for my friends to listen to what I have to say. Even at work, I'm a manager and we just hired a couple of new employees, even they don't pay attention to me. Maybe it's my voice? I'm a lazy talker and tend to mumble. I don't want to have to yell to get someones attention. How do I become THE guy?

work on having a little power behind your voice, it may seem a little off talking loudly at first but keep your shoulders back chin up and push that air out using your stomach.

Always speak with confidence. I used to always get drowned out by my friends, which was horrible. However I learned that making jokes is also a way to get peoples attention. If you aren't a very funny guy generally, then you want to make it clear who is the Alpha in the group. At work this should be easy, because you are the manager. Tell them what they have to do, never go up "Hey can you come here and do this for me?", say "Hey, go do that". Now at work they have to do it either way, but just creating a difference in the way you talk at work, it will eventually start creating a difference in the way you talk to your friends, etc. Also don't try to be the needy guy, or an interrupter, no one respects them. When you start telling a story with friends, and someone interrupts you call them out on it, they almost always stop.
