Was out last night with a pal who is new to this and has a bit of AA still to conquer.
He went to the gents and while he was away I thought I'd talk to a two set who had sat down at a table. It was a lukewarm open cos I vaguely knew a girl they had been chatting to so just went with "Hi, so how do you know ___?"

It was going ok, engaging them both, they didn't seem bored. I was expecting/hoping my friend to come back and join me so I could introduce everyone and stuff but he just went to the bar and was talking to some guy.
I ran out of ideas and didn't want to leave awkward pauses so I ejected with maybe coming back later in mind, but that didn't work out.

What can you do if it's just you and there's 2? How would you go about isolating without a wing?

I use to have so much anxiety when talking to more than one girl. Now I know that it's too much fun and I look forward to it. The more the merrier.

Decide which one will be your target and distance yourself further from her and closer to the non-target. So if it's the 3 of you, keep your non-target between the two of you. Your focus should be on her initially. You keep them both drawn into what you are saying or doing. If your target loses focus, bring her back in.

Run your game. You opened and that got your foot in the door. You could follow that up with some canned material. Always keep an opinion opener and story in your pocket. Build a story off your opinion. For instance this past Saturday, I opened a set with a random question. From there I went into a cologne opener. My cologne opener has a story behind it. I stacked with a game that is so simple yet makes the girl feel like a kid again. (point to her shirt without actually touching and when she looks down flick her nose, but not hard)

When she says something cool, put your hand up for a high five. Everyone knows that no one can deny a high five. You've just broken the barrier for kino.

Isolation works better if you're standing. It's easier to rotate positions when standing and change the focus. If sitting, you're literally gonna have to ask the target to leave her friend for you. You do this by saying that you're gonna go grab a drink/smoke/fresh air and invite her along. It's easier to just pull her slightly away from her friend if you're standing. Eventually some guys radar will go off and he will pick up the non-target keeping her occupied while you continue to run game on the target.

Have fun with talking to these women. Your frame of mind becomes your actions.
