Answering a compliment is something you can totally use but if you already know a lot of sexy chicks and still have not done something about it, learning to get compliments is not gonna be enough.
1st of all: Anytime you get a compliment you have to answer with another subtle compliment, works better if it is flirty:
"thanks for noticing" is not good enough try:
-"thanks, you have gorgeus hair too"
-"thanks, I've been trying to have hair prettier than yours, seems that I've finally did it"
-"thanks, you have very good taste"
2nd: work on your approach anxiety, there are plenty of threads around it in here. Truth is, in the long run, you should not depend on your friends to meet women.
