Is a story necessary? 5 minutes to close in daygame?

I'm in college and play daygame, so when I'm dealing with moving sets, I have around 5 minutes to close.
During this time, I'm pretty funny and joke around a lot. I don't really tell stories. I never have. I usually get her talking about herself, and unless she asks a question about me, the conversation stays on her. I make her laugh a lot so it doesn't feel like an interview, and she feels comfortable and natural.
I do this because when I started, I read a few books. I THINK David Deangelo said that if you keep the conversation pinned on her and you seem interested (regardlass of whether you are or not), then it will make you seem more mysterious and she'll want to see you again to find out more about you. It could be some other guy, but I think Deangelo said that.
Anyways, that's what I've been doing, and I'm fairly good at it. I can go a whole coversation about her, and never having to say anything about myself. My sucess rate (number close without flakes) is about 1/5.

Recently, I was browsing some daygame material and something came up. Alex http://www.alexcoulson.com/2008/08/new- ... ideos.html says that one should tell preplanned stories. I've also read that during the first 3 minutes, I should be talking about myself, so I can show her my best qualities. I feel as if I'll seem too self absorbed
Should I start telling stories and talking all about myself during the first 3 minutes? Remember, most of the girls I deal with, I have to close in 3-5 minutes because they are usually going to class or something.

Just cuz some "mPUA" says something doesn't make it true. If you feel like your interactions are going well and you're getting solid closes, then you're doing fine.

I like to leave that air of mystery after the close. I think building too much comfort on the initial approach will actually harm you more often than not.

I agree that you shouldn't use routines if you don't have to. And personally, I usually start off with talking a bit about something that happened to me recently or something about myself, in order to get her to open up and talk about herself afterwards. If you're getting her to do that without revealing anything, then more power to you (my sticking point is talking too much and not getting enough out of her / intimidating her on occasion).

The only small concern would be if you're losing a girl or two because she looks back at the interaction and is like "wait a minute, I don't really know anything about this guy...he could be a serial killer or something" and then doesn't answer your text to avoid a potentially awkward or dangerous situation. The way to diffuse this would be to CALL to set up the day 2, and have another 5 minutes or so to build a little more rapport and make sure she trusts you before meeting up.
