Is a large circle of friends necessary?

I have a few close friends, but I don't have a very big group. I have one friend who goes to parties all the time, but he constantly gets the girls and it seems damn near impossible for me to be the alpha male of that group. So I guess my main concern is whether or not is important to actually have a ton of friends, or can I just come off as a social guy and still have success with women?

you should have a large social group, you don't really have to be good friends with them just message them now and then go a month in between talking. When you go out they will social proof you to the room, and if there's any really cute girls within there group your automatically social proofed and all the obstacles are disarmed because they're your friends.
