I think its possible, but it really depends on how far you are into the zone. I've been in the zone with some of the girls i'd rather date. But I just kept doing the same I did when I met these girls. I joked a lot about sex and they knew that I was a sexual guy. I didn't mind being there to hear their stories and secrets, but I never helped them get presents for their boyfriends or something. After a while, most of them changed minds and there the dating began:) this is more of a four-month story than a four year one. After such a long period, girls are afraid to lose what they have with you.
If you are really in love with one of your friends, dont torture yourself by being around her a lot. Step up, tell her, and if she doens't feel the same, leave it.

I would have to agree with Dee Dub. The friend zone is a state of mind. In your mind and in hers. BREAK that mind state. For example...I have 2 girls that I see regularly (i.e. go out to eat, movies, gym, etc). I have known them for 7 months and I have finally come to a conclusion that unless you are totally lost (in which case you wouldnt be on this site) there is no friend zone...just missed opportunities. Here's a tip: when you SEEEEEE her in PERSON think of something positive that you like about her saaaay she has big tits or a fucking beautiful ass...picture that in your mind and approach her. She will know something is on your mind adding to your confident smirk. Look into her eyes as if you have a secret. But you're a busy man...dont dally make your exit as soon as you get that positive eye contact back and then, depending on the degree and how long you have felt "like a friend", freeze her out some more and then escalate.
