This is not with just girls. With anyone i just stop talking if there is silence. That sounds stupid but i just notice the silence and feel awkward. I dont know how to get things going is all.

be attentive to what people say or how they act Find info about them and then ask them about it. ask plenty questions and try to relate with as much stories as possible. Analyse yourself and your friends when you talk between eachother. You'll see how you build your good convos and from there apply it to strangers.

ex: the other day i see this dj at a university party. I had seen him a week before as i was leaving the venue. So i say hey i saw u last week but i wasnt so sure, what do you do exactly? are you dj, beat maker?

convo started!

then i say: hey did u get that jacket from XYZ store? i find that place too expensive!
bla bla bla

You could just say, "This silence brings out the awkwardness, but it's cool because I know you have some other interesting things to say." Plain and simple
