Found out that the HS she went to was my HS rivalry, I teased her about that. We started talking about jewelry, I took off my ring and put it on her hand, then put it back on mine. She was laughing and smiling throughout the 5-10 min we were talking, I decided it was time to close her...

Me: I'ma go chill with my friend, put your number in here. (Whips out phone)

Her: Nonono I can't do that. I have a boyfriend.

Me: Where is he? (Looks around)

Her: Sitting right over their. (Points to the biggest mother fucker in the room! This guy played for the football team. However, he was sitting by himself looking at the floor)

She was def showing me major IOI's, and I feel like I would've got her number if her bf wasn't 8 ft away. But it's all good. Anything you would've done differently?

Unless you have a legitimate time constraint and need to leave, it's best to have at least some commonality and some REASON to n-close, that way you're getting her number so that you guys can meet to do that thing. Even if not, just saying "we should hang out again soon" takes some of the pressure off.

Maybe it was her bf, in which case you didn't do anything WRONG, so don't worry about it. Maybe she picked a huge looking guy at random to intimidate you. You could find out by asking her to introduce you guys, and then if he is, be friendly, out-awesome him and eject with them both thinking you're the shit.

Boyfriend or not. One thing you needed to do is move her and start comfort building. You already had attraction. Even if you would have got the number, chance of it being a flake would have been a lot higher. Comfort building then number closing reduces flakes.
