| I have my own thoughts on this issue, but I have general advice that I think will be of use to you.
Finding things out for yourself is powerful. While there is a close relationship between learning about how other people approach things, and using acquired information in order to facilitate approaching things yourself, they are not the same. The essential difference is that the former can occur without action on your part, the latter cannot.
I could write a treatise on why I think 'natural' methods are superior to routines, but to even split the ideas about pickup into those two halves I feel is misleading at best. I believe that things are not that black and white, and there is a lot of truth to be distilled from the variety of opinions floating around the community.
The method of distillation of that truth, however, is not up for debate (in my opinion). You must try things for yourself, and evaluate the results. In the end you will have a body of knowledge that allows you to make decisions with confidence, and ultimately will have created your own school of thought, that being the sum of the ideas you hold true about the subject. This is what I believe some people are referring to when they talk about 'becoming their own guru', or 'becoming a master pickup artist'. Personally I think throwing around words like 'guru' and 'master' is total bullshit, but the principle of taking matters into your hands as a precursor to experiencing lasting success I agree with wholeheartedly.
Short version:
Keep an open mind, try things for yourself, and you won't have to worry about which dogma to pay homage to, you'll be too busy enjoying the company of women.
Good luck man
