All right guys, so I'm a little new to the whole PUA scene, etc.

I've been wanting to talk to this one girl, but I kinda chickened out a few times, so I asked her an opener online:

"I think you're pretty, but what do you have going for you besides your looks?"

It didn't really go well, and she replied saying that the question was offensive/rude, and that she liked the compliment, but the way I asked was strange.

-------------

So here's my question:

What should I do now? I'm basically at a loss of what to do, but I'm thinking I should talk to her in person (but what should I say?).

I don't know much of the situation with that girl, but from what I've read I think you're not experienced enough.

The line you've been using is not for use on female friends, and it sounds weird as opener. Imagine you're a girl and a guy comes to you saying that!
You could use it if she asks you why you approached her. Then you might say "you looked good, and I wanted to find out if you were cool person as well".

But this is canned material which you should only use if you realy know how to use it.

I think you should start learning more about pick up. This might take a while, but it's worth. You can test what you have read on strangers, but I wouldn't start testing it directly on people you know or from your school/college/work, because people talk, and if it fails it can be disastrous.

I advice you to learn everything about inner game first. This is highly overlooked by new people starting with pick up. Then if you have changed your inner beliefs, and you've build up your confidence alot, then I would start learning about outer game then.

^This isn't an opener.

By the way, I'd be interested to hear what made the OP choose this particular phrase. What was your logic?

I read in an ebook, Double You Dating by David DeAngelo that if you don't know what to say, that line is a good way to break the ice.

However, I realize it was a dumb thing to do, but what do I say to her on Monday when I see her again?

. . . "You know, hobbies, passions, that kind of thing. A college adviser/manager/professor/etc . . . asked me something like that and it really got me thinking. What are my passions? What will I add to the World? Ever think about that?"

yeah, I probably should have asked something like that, but now I need to know what to do in order to salvage the situation.

There's a strong chance if you try to 'fix' it you'll only compound the weirdness of it.

So don't.

Start clean, as if nothing happened.

Easy.
