Depends what style you're comfortable with.

If you're being indirect, then you have to make sure you're body language is away, the opener is casual and over the shoulder, and you're talking to her because she just happens to be the nearest person, not going right up to her specifically out of anyone else there. Then it's just a matter of waiting to show interest little by little as she shows you more IOIs, exhibits compliance and qualifies herself to you, etc.

If you're going direct, then there's nothing wrong with telegraphing your interest right away, in fact the point is to do this in a non-creepy way and be confident enough to escalate further.
