Whenever I try to use some of the routines on my female co-works at the office, my other co-worker always cockblocks by saying "wow.... is that really how you hit on women?" and kills it all. How do I respond to this? I can't shake him off because we are both interns and all the interns at work sit together. I need a clever thing to say to shut him up. Can someone PLEASE help me out with this issue?
Man maybe you should think about why this guy cockblocks you. Then you can avoid those situations.
First of all, you do it at work.
Work is not a pickup place. People do meet at work, true. But seriously, the game was not developed for work.
From the way you talk I just assume that you use the MM.
Using routines is a fun thing to do In A Club. At work... It doesnt feel natural. The guy obviously see that you behvae in a completely unnatural way, something that does not fit into the situation and something you dont do with the rest of the people. So obviously you are hitting on her. And you do it in a stupid way. Since it is as I said, not meant for work. So that pisses him off.
Plus, I am sure that you do the cocky funny thing. That only works when you are with people you dont know, or that are in on it. Being too cocky all of a sudden is very annoying to any other guy. Especially if it is a collegue that know you, that know that you are normally not like that.
If you meet a girl in a bar, she will base her opinion on your first meeting. She doesnt know what you are like, except what she can see and sense. So being cocky works for you. At work, everybody will think that whenever you talk to that one girl, you are an asshole. Because you are, compared to how you normally behave.
How would you react if someone who is normally a really sweet guy to you suddenly started acting all high and mighty and supercocky. You would wanna take him down to where he normally is. Regain the balance.
Another very important thing that I did when I first started out was that I refused to practice within my social circle. Lets face it, when you start out, you may feel like you improve, but you actually suck. Everybody does. So you are gonna screw up bigtime. Better screwing up with people who you will never meet again than with your collegues that you will meet every single day. So be careful.
