I use okcupid and plentyoffish.com. I usually send one of 2 messages:

Topic: Do you like cereal with or without milk?
Message: Hey there.

Or

Topic: Do you drink coffee or tea? (or what do you like better- coffee or tea?)
Message: Hey there

I get a decent response rate for both of those messages.

For the first question, I usually get responses such as “usually with milk, but it depends on the cereal.” Or just something along the lines of “without milk” (and no elaboration).

For the second one, I get responses such as “neither” or “mostly coffee- but i do also have a weakness for jasmine green tea. you?” (sometimes they don’t ask me which I like)?

Any response I give never gets a reply. So for both situations, what are some good replies that I can give so that they will respond and so I can build some attraction? Also, what would their responses to that response probably be and what could I respond to that with?

thats because there are guys out there doing shit right on their dating profiles.

those are basically messages that give off the "idk how this works, my buddy said to ask a stupid question"

and then your follow up reinforces that most likely.

but a big part is your profile.

I get good success with my profile being full of over the top sarcastic bullshit that reveals very little about me specifically, combined with a nice pic. my messages fit in with that.

Maybe it's my profile, then? Can you give me some feedback?

---

My Self-Summary

I'm aware that my username is extremely uncreative. I really didn't know what to put, so I thought a string of letters and numbers would do fine. Any suggestions for a better username are welcome. But then I'd have to make a new profile. So I'll just stick with this name. Anyway, I love to joke around and not take things so seriously, although I also enjoy an intelligent conversation. I can be pretty random, spontaneous and sarcastic at times. And I enjoy caffeine. Fun random fact- in Soviet Russia, the profile writes you.

Oh, here are some of my favorite quotes:

"You're being dramatic. You own a TV and an air mattress. That's not exactly what I'd call "a lot to lose."

"Jesus Christ, Just give the dog his food. Why's he gotta do a trick first? YOU don't have to do anything before YOU eat."

"The baby will talk when he talks, relax. It ain't like he knows the cure for cancer and he just ain't spitting it out."

"We're out of Grape Nuts... No, what's left is for me. Sorry, I should have said "You're out of Grape Nuts."

"A SNAKE IS NOT A ANIMAL. GO BACK TO SCHOOL PUNK AND YOU WILL LEARN SOMETHING. A SNAKE IS A REPTILE."

What I’m doing with my life

Saving kittens from trees and helping old ladies get through the crosswalks.

I’m really good at

Sleeping. I think anyone can be good at it; everyone does it and it doesn't take too much effort. I guess I can also add breathing and blinking my eyes to the list. Oh, and untangling cords.

The first things people usually notice about me

Tattoos, I guess.

My favorite books, movies, music, and food

Music: Animal Collective, The Russian Futurists, The Shins. Mainly indie rock, indie pop and experimental, although I do listen to a bit of other genres.

Movies: Clerks. And other Kevin Smith movies. Lock Stock and 2 Smoking Barrels. And some others.

Food: Human flesh. I'm up for anything. Tiramisu is the best cake ever.

The six things I could never do without

Food and water. Technically everyone needs at least those 2. Also: the internet, coffee, my cell phone, and my ipod. Those seem like necessities nowadays. Well, except for ipods. And coffee. But the latter is debatable.

On a typical Friday night I am

Robbing a 7-Eleven. Or, if I'm feeling ambitious, a bank. It's how I pay my bills. Getting a regular job hasn't occurred to me yet. Plus it'll probably pay less. Otherwise, I'm usually with friends, watching a movie, or checking out music I haven't heard before (suggestions are welcome).

The most private thing I’m willing to admit

I use the internet. Shocking. Especially in this day and age.

You should message me if

You appreciate witty, satirical, sarcastic, quirky, random, silly, corny, or ironic humor. Bonus points if you can dish it out.

-------------

I have 2 pictures. My main profile picture is me looking at the camera with a somewhat serious face (I’m not smiling). I am alone in each picture (I don’t have any pictures of myself with others). Also, in each picture I have I am wearing a t-shirt, so the tattoos on my arms are showing. But the first thing women will see in terms of my picture when I message them is just the cropped section of my main picture that just shows my face (not smiling).

there are numerous things wrong with that profile

its EXTREMELY try hard, like more tryhard than AFC tryhard.

here's my online profile that gets girls opening me

----------

I currently spend my time practicing the art of underwater basket weaving. It takes lots of concentration...and lung capacity....to weave baskets....underwater. Hopefully, one day I'll be able to explode things with my mind and live while on fire.

Seriously, do people actually answer all these questions? Dont interview me, just be interesting and we'll chat.

First Date:

Hmm, I'd pick you up on my Motorcycle with absolutely no plan ready, though i'll tell you its a nice dinner. Then when you're all dressed up, I'll decide that Pizza and Go-karts would be SOOO much more fun. I'd cut you off on every corner and taunt you mercilessly. Eventually, due to my sexy eyes and smooth talking, we'll end up back at your place. A few hours later, I'll ride away angrily accusing you of treating me like a piece of meat. srsly.

you see a bit of difference there?

Honestly, I didn't see much of a difference, aside from the fact that the humor you used was a little more outrageous than mine. My whole profile, like yours, is just humorous. I guess I actually STATE that I like to joke around etc. Is that a problem? Should I remove that and just let my jokes show it?

But most importantly, why is my profile tryhard?

Actually there is a huge difference between yours and KristallNachte profile. For one look at the length of the two. KristallNachte is short and sweet while yours is an essay paper. You also qualify your self in the first sentence and in the overall feel of your profile. You also don't show any confidence in your self either. You also use weak words as well. There is loads more like posting a million quotes in your profile, one is okay maybe two but not as many as you have.

Okcupid forces you to make long profiles since there are so many sections. It's common, trust me. Also, you mention that I qualify myself in the overall feel of my profile and I don't show any confidence in myself either. How exactly? What are some examples? I don't see that at all (except for maybe qualifying myself in the first sentence, but the way I did it, I don't see how it's bad, it was more being sarcastic).

the thing is, which no one gets right in online gaming really is the difference between SHOWING and STATING.

much like you said, saying that you like to joke around is useless, it doesn't mean anything, just like every girl is 'down to earth'. But showing it is just like doing it in real life, they see that and they either like it or don't.

and your quotes, don't really have any purpose aside from "hey hey, look at me, i'm trying to be funny.

ps. just from logging into PoF to copy my profile for you, I got 3 new messages from girls I'd never looked at or messaged.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Is one quote okay, though?

Also, is this part okay to keep:

You should message me if:

You appreciate witty, satirical, sarcastic, quirky, random, silly, corny, or ironic humor. Bonus points if you can dish it out.

I should have said your about me section. I didn't think OkCupid forced you to fill out all of the sections? I know I have one section not filled out.

The first sentence is not sarcastic tho. You are qualifying your self. I know you see it otherwise. But its really not coming off that way. As far as you qualifying your self and not showing confidence a lot of that has to do with using weak words and/or sentence structure. A lot of it is your over use of jokes and trying to be sarcastic. The most clear example of the weak wording is this:

The first things people usually notice about me

Tattoos, I guess.

You guess your tattoos are the first thing people notice about you? Or you know its the first thing people notice about you? See what I am getting at? You should read some books to get a better idea of what we are talking about. As you want to describe who you are without saying it.

One quote is okay, but only if it fits in with your profile tho. If you are using it to try and show you are funny, then don't bother with it.

Trash it.

Because I'm bored at work I will give you a run-down.

Make this go away. It is insecure

You've just described 99% of the population. You are not standing out from the crowd.

Oh, here are some of my favorite quotes:
Be authentic. Use your own humor. Don't rip off someone else's jokes.

When women read this they are thinking "he is lazy, has no job, and probably still lives with his parents."

Be bold. Don't try and stay broad with "I listen to everything."

No one cares what food you like. Leave this one blank.

This is your chance to be hilarious. Why are you wasting it?!

Your profile should be short and not full of fluff. It should convey two messages: that you don't take yourself or dating too seriously, and that a woman would have a good time hanging out with you.

So how would you change the self-summary section?
