1. Fun - The Groove
The groove is most important. A simple groove. With this you can move comfortably to any music and with any dancer. 1. Fun This is the warm up to all the dancing you will do that night.
(Some hips have an accent. But they can all talk.)
Place your weight on your toes. Now move your body from the hip and keep your toes on the ground.
Bring in some of your other moves through style but always keep your feet on the ground. (Then when you get warmed up begin to raise your heel.) Toes on the ground is home base. It is the boxing stance. You optimize your body parts and you are in the best position to groove and be comfortable to and with any music or dancer.
Then you will get some attention.
2. Me and You (The partner dancing)
I find it best to wait until a woman has danced with you to move your feet off the ground. (this can be an energy dance from across the room. Proximity is not needed to dance with another person)
Hips. That's the key. Even if the dance is just a two step. Work that hip. (That's where the hop comes from

Use what ever movements you have stored in your memory banks as inspiration for your groove.)
If you got salsa training test out the girl with her ability to keep up with you. Slowly feel her hand and hold it. Push a little to see if she understand direction suggestion. If she can move her hips then she can understand hand on hip direction, easily. If you think she can handle some simple steps. Then you can test out a spin. (Maybe she can dance. Better than you. In that case step up and learn. Be her dancing pole. If you pull off a little dancing on level 3 together then what a show. Everyone watching and you and her are having a great time.)
When you are dancing alone and you move your feet off the ground. You could look corny. If you are doing this fancy step from some place to show off and let the room there's a Dancer! in the room. You could turn people off. Just groove when you alone.
You look corny when you are lifting your feet off the ground and no one is dancing with you. You look like you are trying. (Because you are). You ain't that into the music. We appreciate you dancing but... You loose some strength when doing this unless...
3. Funk Feel Free (The spirit takes you)
(it comes from a true place. You really love this song. You can get up and make noise dance your heart out. Let 'em say "Boy, one night I went to a party and saw a cowboy. They played a cowboy song and he did the cowboy dance! I'll never forget it. If you are not in this state then you look corny. Only honest energy should move your feet.)
If you reach the state of 3. but then you feel conscious of people watching you. (It is because they are. You are dancing. It looks like fun. People are watching. The vibe spreads from you to the room. The girls feel it, they are in tune to it. Fun!. The girls all want to dance and they know you stirred it up. You just made friends.) You are getting attention. Enjoy it. If all that attention has taken you out of that 3 Funky Feel Free state go back to 1. The groove. The feet on the ground. Toes take the weight. And just groove. You back to Alpha. You are Cool Hot and Relaxed
