Anyone have advice/experience with blocking out people around you? I just started and found that when I get shot down the people around me snicker. I know it's stupid to pay attention to it but it gets to me sometimes.

Or maybe even witty comments to say that might make them laugh before you exit?

Depends on who these people are and what situation they are in.

Example:
Group of guys who just happen to overhear --- Tell them something like, "Hey, at least I have the balls to go talk to a girl." or "I'd rather get shot down then circle jerk with my buddies."

Other girls --- "Keep on laughing, you're next!"

so on, so on.

Chances are though, no one knows what is going on. Everyone is too caught up in there own little world that they could care less about yours. I like to stay in my own world too. (After getting shot down, I just think of where i'm heading next and what I could have done better, what were my strong points, etc. That usually tunes out everyone else around.)
