I would look across the room at this girl and notice she was looking at me. She never smiled and looked away when she saw I was looking. This happened a couple of times throughout the night.

I've never encountered this before and it confused me...

I heard it could be a few possible things:

1) You caught her looking, and she was nervous/shy, which explains why she was looking away

2) She could be checking you out a few times to see if you're really a guy shes attracted to (for me, I like to look over at the girls a few times and see if what I really saw the first time equates to how she REALLY looks -- and sometime's the girl will catch me looking but on my behalf, she won't be someone Im attracted to, YET we made contact a few times ... which Im tryna basically say she could just be looking at you to see if she likes you)

3) And depending on how the girl looks away ... I find from experience that if you look at a person (girl) and she looks down and THEN away (with her eyes), it could mean she might not be interested (Anybody have any proof to back me up here? Or am I just assuming?) ... But if she just moves her eyes away in one direction, it could mean another thing

She was having a conversation with another group when this occurred. While reading your post I thought about it again and realized that it really shouldn't have mattered what the reason was. I was being ignorant, and placing too much emphasis on the context of the eye contact and not focusing on the actual eye contact itself.
