Being social is a snowball effect, you talk to one person, get to know something from him, talk to another and iether learn something from him or share your views or the 'knowledge' you've just acquired...Your Brother in law says that you should just talk because over the years he has spoken with soo many people that he can share his experience, his or others views and add value to the conv. Like anything else you too would get better at socialising by meeting people and having SHORT conv. at first. -
I dont know how better to explain it some steps taken by Neil Strauss in 'The Game' to pick up women is pretty much the things you can do to become social minus the sexual vibe.
