The Game was what got me into pick up. However if it's a how-to you're after, the Game doesn't offer much.
I think a lot of people on these forums would agree that the Mystery Method, although it might be becoming outdated, set the groundwork for a large chunk of the pick up community, introducing concepts such as negs, DHV'ing, etc.
I read the book Natural Seduction by Gambler and that was a decent read. It's not as heavy as the Mystery Method, but also seems a bit basic in comparison.
The books on NLP by the likes of Ross Jeffries offer some different techniques to do with anchoring positive feelings; IMO these are a bit out there but could be quite effective if applied correctly.
The most important thing book-wise to focus on, IMO would be inner game. There are tons of books on how to build confidence and inner game. Also watch some speeches from Tony Robbins, the guy knows his stuff.
Hope this helped. But remember, you can read all you like and you won't make any progress if you don't get out in the field and practice! You'll hear it a 100 times - there's no better way to learn than to get out in the field and get approaching sets.
