Hey everyone. New to these forums. I've recently become self-employed and as a result, have taken the opportunity to move around a lot. After all, if all you need to do your work is a laptop and an internet connection, why not take the opportunity to move around and have some fun before your too old and not interested anymore?

That being said, I've run into a challenge that I'm sure some of you have faced before; how to quickly build and then maintain social circles when you are only periodically in the area.

Right now I am moving between two areas, living in each for about a month. It can be difficult to build meaningful relationships (with men or womenfriends) in such a short period of time, and maintain them while you are gone. After all, half of liking someone is being there, and if your not around, its hard for someone to like you without an extensive history. I am curious as to how other people tend to approach this type of situation in their own experience.

Typically, I find a bunch of interest groups in the area (Ballroom dancing, board game nights, hiking/exercise clubs) and get involved in those. This tends to get me pretty good results in terms of making new friends. The biggest challenge I run into is keeping myself motivated to interact and spend time with people when I know I"ll be gone in a few weeks.

So! I'd be curious as to what other people have done / have to say.
