Well basically tried one of those text messages relating to being a retard and it didn't go down well at all! Tried it on Facebook as an opening comment and got deleted.

Anyway here's what it said:

"Hi there, me and my friends bet eachother £50 that retards can't type, can you prove them wrong? x"

I thought she would take it as a joke but apparently not, so is it best just to wait 'til I next see her apologise face to face (rather than bother calling and have her risk putting the phone down)

Anyway its not so much that it matters if I get this girl, I'm perfectly happy taking the 'NEXT' mentality but she's near my study space and I'd be happy just even salvaging a friendship.

Why not just tell her she didn't get the joke? I am new at this so I may be wrong. Or maybe you didn't give her the feeling that you can make joke like this and she took you seriously.

That message is really insulting and not funny. Plus, you're telling her that if she writes you a message it will confirm that she thinks she's a retard and wants to prove you wrong, so it's really begging her not to. Plus the word retard is offensive to a lot of people.

Yeah figured it was the latter. Well will talk to her and see how it goes but looks like I can't really salvage a relationship. Bah, bad advice from this forum, goes to show really.

However I would still like to hear other people's feedback on how to overcome this and at least salvage at least remain on good terms to a small extent. As I said, I can live without a relationship and I'm happy for the learning experience.
