Hello everyone, this'll be my first post in a while. Unfortunately, I have not had any experience in the field. I definitely would like to once I am financially stable, however I do have one question for the vets. An ex-girlfriend from high school texted me out of the blue after I stood her up a couple of years ago, and here's how it went (forgive me for lowering my value in a couple text.)

Ex: Hi DocDoom!
Me: Hey...Who's this? (I did know)
Ex: Who do you think it is? I've known you since I was 14.
Me: I don't know, I know a decent amount of people.
Ex: Oh you know me, I'm a girl!!!
Me: Ok...so what's up?
Ex: Lol its "ex", just wanted to say hi.
Me: Hey "ex", how you been?
Ex: It's fun, same ol. What about you? What are you up to?
Me: Not much, just life hah. Your up late, no class tomorrow?
Ex: Just got outta work, staying up all night studying lol.
Me: Busy bee..can't stay up with you tonight, gotta be up tm. GL with studying, ttyl.
Ex: Okay, later mang!

Anyways, I'm still sort of confused as why she's texting me. We've always bounce around like this every couple year, just wonder why now after we're off to college in different states (not sure if she's know I'm out of state). What I would like to know is, should I try to text her later on or wait for her to text me again?

First you need to ask yourself what you want out of this. You said that you live in different states, and LDR are in no way the easiest thing in the world. If you only want her around as a friend then there is nothing wrong with texting her whenever you want. Hell there's nothing wrong with texting her whenever in the first place. If you want to talk to her, talk to her. If you don't, don't.

You are over-thinking.

Sounds like she was a tad bit bored, and needed somebody to text.
