From my experience, pickup and generating attraction is a combination of many factors. Sure negging and peacocking are two ways to generate attraction, but saying that pickup is just those two things is like saying there's not much more to that glacier under the surface of the water.

For instance, you have to know in what situations peacocking is most effective and where it might get a negative response. A lot of it is understanding female psychology, and if you read a few books on that subject you can learn about how a girls projected personality can tell you a lot about her history and home life. Canned material works, but the best stuff is your own material based around the outlines of proven methods. Some of it is how alpha you are, and how natural all the above mentioned game flows out of you.

Read a few of the major guides and try it out for yourself, I think you'll see what I mean.
