Although I have never done it, nor do I know how it is done (Ok, I have an idea) I liked the watch stopping trick.. because it appears propless.. not like breaking out a deck of cards or dice, anyway.

What kind of magic tricks do you guys use?

well, i have been a magician for quite some time now, and i really like the tricks that are completely impromptu.

a couple of examples of these are coin tricks and mentalism effects. most coin effects are gonna work great, however sometimes you might want to use a deck of cards, because you can say you want to play cards, and before you play you say, "hey, wanna see something cool?"

the watch stopping trick is completely 'propless,' as you call it, or in the magic world we call it gimmickless.

if you are looking into coin magic you might want to get "modern coin magic" by Bobo.

of course a really impromptu trick with cards is the, "this, that, and other," trick, look it up on youtube. then look up the videos that reveal how it's done, it's completely amazing, but really simple.

anyways, if you don't mind carrying around a deck of cards you may want to look up stigmata at www.ellusionist.com

simply the most amazing trick ever.

billy, if u know how to do the watch stopper, u should be able to do the vanishing or changing coin via the bat or the raven correct?

whenever i did the watch stopper the person didnt seem to impressed. theyd still be like howd u do that but they wouldnt freak out like when i would vanish a quarter waving my hands over theirs

theyll always ask to see it again.

Hey guys, I just ran across this old post of yours but I've been using (and teaching) PUA's how to use magic in their game for a while.

(see signature for more details)

Anyway, Watchstopper is great, I've used it...but I've noticed that most of the time, women aren't wearing watches with second hands...it's mainly men. I was disappointed to find this out...but it still works amazing on your friends.

Agree...with Lucky tho, impromptu effects are definitely the best and there is a big trick to using magic to impress girls WITHOUT "looking like" you're trying to impress her with magic.

No card tricks at bars by the way...keep those for when you bring her back to your place.

For more...

I would second this recommendation. When I used to do magic a few years ago, I learned quite a few neat tricks/sleights from this work. Learn the basics here and you will be decently well off.

Stigmata is a cool effect too, but I prefer the trick where the card name appears on the other person's arm in ash... sorry the name slips my mind right now. It always hits hard because the person would never expect anything to appear on his or her self.

I've never really applied magic to pickup because... I don't know why but I just don't like to. I will maybe do a coin trick or two in isolation, but rarely. It's a good tool to use, I just don't personally use it.

Unless you're a magician you don't need to be doing magic! It's weird.

Unless you are a magician, magic is poor substitute to developing your personality. Picking up women is not a magic trick. It's about becoming a better man. Dating science has come SO much further than magic tricks! Magic is like 10 years ago.

There we go. I couldn't find the words I wanted to use when trying to explain why I don't use it. Magic was a hobby of mine way before I liked pickup, but I just never saw it fitting without being weird. Don't get me wrong, if you use it and it works for you, by all means don't change it. I just find it a bit too "clownish"... like you may get a "That was awesome! Do it again!" reaction but you'll never make a coin vanish and her reaction is "F*ck me on this table right now!". If being a magician is your job or hobby and you get on the topic of jobs or hobbies, then maybe one trick isn't so bad... but I wouldn't bring it up or go out of my way to do it. That's just me personally.
